When you become a member of City of Southampton Swimming Club you will be allocated a training squad based on your age and ability. Each squad develops skills that have been learnt through the Learn to Swim Academy. Swimmers are expected to progress through the squads as their skills and ability improves, providing they are committed and work hard in training sessions.
The criteria for squad movements has been set by the Professional Head Coach, which will be continually reviewed and subject to change. The standards and targets do not mean automatic movement when gained by a swimmer; they are merely the targets required to be achieved by the swimmer to be considered for movement. Squad moves in the higher squads will be based on the ability to train within a squad, positive attitude, training regularly and competing in recognised club competitions.
Further information about each squad, including training times and equipment required is available below:
- Junior County Potential
- National / Regional
- Senior Performance
- Senior Training - to follow
If you are over 25 years old, or aged 18-24 years old and seeking a lower level of training commitment, our Masters squad may be of interest. Further details can be found in our Masters section:
Every Thursday night we run a club shop on the balcony at the Quays. We have in stock a range of items in club colours, such as hats, t-shirts and tracksuit tops, along with equipment used in training and in competitions. Some of the items that are available include:
- Drag pants
- Drinks bottles
- Hand paddles
- Skipping ropes
- Stretch cords
- Swimming costumes
If we do not have an item in stock we can order this for you, including racing trunks. Purchasing your kit through the club shop helps raise money to support the club.
